Together, we decided what was important to us
and how to be the best we can be.

Here is what we came up with:

It's Been A While!

**We are practicing writing with different sentence beginnings, so that is why you will see some yellow highlights below:

Our new unit in Science is about structures and materials. So far we have tested out beams and pillars. For the beams, we folded lots of paper to test how much mass each type could hold. The strongest one was accordion beam. Next we started to learn about pillars. We tested cylindrical, triangular and rectangular pillars. Putting the weights on carefully is important so it doesn't tip. Cylindrical was the strongest because it spreads out the mass evenly. Now we are building newspaper stools with our building knowledge from the last few experiments. We are using newspaper and tape to build them and they must be strong enough to hold a person.

Another thing we did was the Spring Fling! It's a big dance that the whole school does together. This year we had to do it in two groups because we have a lot of kids in the school. Before the Spring Fling, we practiced dancing in gym everyday to different songs like Old Dan Tucker, Hokey Pokey, the Cupid Shuffle, Continental Drift, the Chicken Dance, the Cha Cha Slide, the Limbo and the Macerena. Keyra says her favourite dance was the Cupid Shuffle. Jamie liked the Limbo the most because "it makes you have exercise and you can practice bending yourself to make you flexible." At the end of the Spring Fling, we also did a free movement dance.

In gym we are learning gymnastics. We do shoulder rolls, log rolls, pencil rolls, and balances. The difference is you put your hands up for the pencil roll and you put your hands to the side for the log roll. We did all sorts of poses and are working on some routines. For the routines we need 3 movements like the bear walk, crab walk, seal or leap frog around the mat, two poses and a roll. We're not allowed to roll anywhere on our neck or head because we could get hurt. To add to that, we always do shoulder rolls where your chin needs to be tucked in and you lead with your shoulder and hands. Our class loves gymnastics!
