We've been up to...

October So Far!

We have done many things in 3B in October, such as finishing swimming, a few different art projects and learning new things in gym. We had our last swimming lesson on Tuesday this week. We did some safety lessons with our clothes on in the pool! "You couldn't really feel much of the water," said Noah. "When you took the extra clothes off your skin felt so clean," said Mia. "When you climb out of the pool, it feels like you weigh 1000-2000 pounds!" said Jackson. We wore clothes in the pool so we would know what it would feel like if you fell out of a boat.

One day we walked down to the water park to collect leaves for an art project (and to play!). We painted the bumpy side of the leaves white then stamped them on a piece of black paper. Then after we were done doing that, we took sponges and put a bunch of fall colours around it. When we were done we took pictures and everybody noticed that everyone's pictures were unique and beautiful. We had lots of fun.

We started to learn about soccer outside and inside for gym. Sometimes we played 4 corner soccer, we did passing with the soccer ball and how to put your foot on the ball to kick it properly (inner foot and outer foot), and we learned how not to kick a ball (with our toes). After soccer, we started throwing practice. When we throw our shoulders face our faces and we have to point where we want it to go. We also have to twist. When you want to have a better aim, you step with your opposite foot as your arm throws. We played a game called Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and some other games too.

We are off to a great start of school!

September so far!

One thing we started in September was swimming!  We have learned a lot of ways to swim (like diving, lengths, the rope, front crawl, front glide, back float, back glide, front float, side glide, and flutter kick). The instructors are really nice because they teach us different skills, how to be safe, new things and things so you can be a better swimmer. We like the game "Safe or Sorry" because you get to learn safe things in the pool and things that are not safe (which we wouldn't do!). The instructors let us go off the diving board and the rope and play with rings and other equipment at the end of our lessons. Some of us even got to put life jackets on to go in the deep end. We practiced what to do if someone fell off a boat too. Swimming is one of the most fun things in grade three so far!

In 3B, we've also done a lot of fun math activities. Some of them include Math Writing (where we show ways to make a 3-digit number), Math with Someone (games to practice making 10 and other facts with a partner), and Math by Myself (independent math to get better at math). We are getting speedier at our addition facts. It's only 3 weeks at school and our math stamina is getting really high. Our first day of Math Writing, we got up to 10 minutes of stamina already!  We are almost ready for more math choices.

We've also used the Chromebooks for a few things already. Some things we did was do our reading SLA when we had to read and solve problem, tried Tumblebooks and looked at our classroom blog. We will be using more and more soon for all subjects!  We are excited!

    Thanks for reading about 3B!

From the epic kids of 3B :)

Beetle Time!

We have a beetle!

3B was observing the life cycle of a mealworm and they unfortunately didn't get to the last stage before school ended. But.... the day after we had our first adult darkling beetle!  Here is a picture of the speedy creature:

June in 3B

June Writing

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! June was a spectacular month! We were very busy and happy at the end of our grade three year.

One of the things we did was watch "Born to Be Wild." It was about elephants and orangutans with no families. Humans took care of the animals until they were ready to go into wild. Some people didn't take care of them or their families were killed, so the caretakers in the movie took them in. It's like an orphanage for animals. These animals got loved by the people who cared for them. These people who helped the animals were global citizens because they know that people and animals are important parts of the world. Some elephants and orangutans are endangered because we've destroyed most of their habitats and hunt for ivory. It's our responsibility to take care of others and ourselves.

Another thing we did in June was go to the Abbey Center for swimming. It was an adventure! There was a diving board that a lot of people went off of. Before we could do anything in the deep end, we had to take a swimming test to see if we could go without a life jacket. If we passed, they made a shape on our arms with marker.  There are two water slides at the Abbey, one green and one purple. They are equally fast. The purple one is covered. There is also a lazy river (whirl pool) and it's really fun once you get into it. It's hard to get out because the current pulls you.

On the way home, we were walking when we started to feel dribbles of rain. As we got closer to the school, the rain started coming down faster and then hail too! It was raining so much that we couldn't see and we were soaked. Luckily, we got to go into the Blackfalds Town Shop (old fire hall), where we got out of the rain. They helped us get warm, dried some towels and we got snacks too from Nevaeh's mom! Mr. W came to help us out and eventually we got a bus to come and get us. Noah gave out some chocolates too. It was a bit crazy but we all survived!

June was a great last month in grade 3! We are ready for a fun summer and then grade four!

Sports Day Fun!

We had Sports Day at IREC on Friday, May 22nd. When we started the whole school (Gr. 1-4) sat in a group in the field. We talked about the rules like walking from station to station. One of the rules was we had to be a good sport. You had to do all of the stations before you do one again. After we talked about the rules we did our school cheer.

There were more than enough stations for all of us to go at once. Teachers, parents and grade 4 students ran the stations.

"My favourite station was the soccer," says Riley W., Cole, Teigen, Rionn, Lyric, Jade, Katelynn P., and Noah.

Riley L. says "My favourite station was Tug-of-War because it was kind of easy when we were playing."  Aaron, Nolan, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Ashley, Isabelle, and Devyn also liked Tug-of-War.

"My favourite station was If I Ran A Zoo because we had to run back and forth and steal other people's animals from their zoos. Then we had to count them up," says Daylene.

Jazlynn really liked the station with the sponges and the buckets. Titus and Macie liked the potato sack race. Hannah liked the bean bag relay race. Zane's favourite was the one where you had to throw the baseball into the hoops.

At lunch, we had hot dogs in the classroom before we went out to do the stations again. Then we went back where the whole school met before and had freezies. It was a great day!
